One Customer, Three Legs, No Empty Miles…
Some jobs come together so neatly that they’re a pleasure to plan, and this fleet van transport job was one of them.
The job started just outside Edinburgh, where I collected a Scottish Gas van for its new owner. After loading and checking it over, it was a long but straightforward run back down south to Wolverhampton. It’s not the first time I’ve headed north of the border for work, and I’m sure it won’t be the last.

On arrival, the new van was handed over, and rather than heading home empty, I loaded up the customer’s old British Gas electric van. It’s still wearing its “clean green electric machine” livery, and it was on its way to be sold.

From Wolverhampton, the British Gas van went straight down to Manheim’s Vehicle Services centre in Coventry, ready to be sold. I’ve worked directly with Manheim at plenty of their sites over the years, but this was my first visit to Coventry.

This is the kind of fleet van transport job I enjoy most. By tying the delivery and the collection together, the customer avoided paying for two separate journeys, and there were no wasted miles in between. Both vans were checked over and photographed at collection, so there was a clear record of their condition from start to finish. Being a qualified High Voltage Technician, I’m also comfortable with electric van transport, which are becoming a bigger part of every fleet.
