Some jobs stick with you. This one was a non-running Chevrolet Camaro, bought from a private seller in Preston and heading to its new owner on the west coast of Scotland — classic car transport to Scotland in the middle of January.

The car had not turned a wheel in a long while, and the ignition barrel was faulty; we believe the keys had been lost somewhere along the way. That rules out simply driving it aboard. Our truck carries the winch, so the Camaro was pulled on there and then transferred to the trailer for the journey north, which is what the weight limits require once you are going that far. Moving cars that will not start is a regular part of what we do.

Loading happened on the Sunday, which was simply when there was time to do the job properly rather than rush it. Delivery at the end of the week suited us and the buyer alike.

Then came the hard part. The weather heading north was as bad as it gets — heavy snow over the high ground and a long, careful crawl through the Highlands with someone else’s V8 on the back. Every customer gets a live tracking link to follow their vehicle on a map, and on a run like that one it earns its keep: rather than wondering where his car had got to, Tony could see exactly where it was.
